COP 25 in Madrid: Call for mobilization

Initially planned for December 2 to 13, 2019 in Santiago de Chile, the 25th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 25) will finally take place on the same dates in Madrid. This change of location is due to the social tensions currently unfolding in Chile.

Considering the presence of a strong Amazigh community in Spain and the geographical proximity of this country to the countries of Tamazgha (North Africa), the Amazigh World Congress (CMA) wishes to seize this great opportunity to organize a large participation of Amazighs to this planetary event.

As in Marrakech during the COP 22 in 2016, the CMA calls on the Amazighs to be massively present at the COP 25 in Madrid, in order to draw the attention of international public opinion to the threats that weigh on the Amazighs in their different territories and to make known in particular their conception and their original methods in peaceful development and in harmony with nature.

The CMA recalls some major issues and challenges for Amazighs in different countries:

- the spoliation of their lands and natural resources and the occupation of their territories by foreign forces and interests,
- the systematic violence and repression exercised by the states against the defenders of the rights of the Amazigh indigenous people,
- the destruction of the Amazigh civilizational and cultural heritage and the disregard of their traditional knowledge and know-how which conceals real solutions against climate change and for sustainable development.

The CMA calls for a very strong mobilization of the Amazighs in Madrid so that their voice is heard in the concert of the peoples and nations of the world and that finally ceases their marginalization and the violation of their fundamental rights.

The Amazigh World Congress, which enjoys observer status with the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNCCC), is ready to coordinate the participation of Amazigh organizations in COP 25 in Madrid.

KABYLIE: REPRESSION AND A PLAN FOR AUTONOMY
Kabylie is a densely populated mountainous region located in the North of Algeria, to the East of Algiers. Surrounded by littoral plains in the West and in the East, with the Mediterranean Sea to the North and the High Plateaus in the South, it is devoid of an overall administrative existence and is the home to a Berber population: the Kabyles. There are between 3 and 3.5 million Kabyle speakers in Kabylia out of a total population of around 35 million inhabitants in Algeria. The Kabyles also number between 2 and 2.5 million in the rest of the country, particularly in Algiers, where they represent a large proportion of the population. There are a million of them as well in France and in other European countries plus Canada.... Full story - - Auteur: ESISC - Date : 2010-06-28 08:57:00
