"Indigenous designs: celebrating stories and cultures, crafting their own future"

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous People (9 August) was first proclaimed by the General Assembly in December 1994, to be celebrated every year during the first International Decade of the World's Indigenous People (1995 – 2004).

In 2004, the Assembly proclaimed a Second International Decade, from 2005 – 2015, with the theme of “A Decade for Action and Dignity.”

The focus of this year’s International Day will be Indigenous designs: celebrating stories and cultures, crafting our own future.

This theme highlights the need for preservation and revitalization of indigenous cultures, including their art and intellectual property.  It can also be used to showcase indigenous artists and cooperatives or businesses who are taking inspiration from indigenous peoples' customs and the indigenous communities who may have participated or benefited from this.

It is also a reminder of the responsibility of individuals as consumers, to understand that there is a story and a personal experience behind every piece of cloth, textile or artwork from an indigenous individual or community.

At UN Headquarters on 9 August, there will be a special event focusing on intellectual property in relation to indigenous designs, as well as best practices for protecting indigenous arts and crafts.

It\'s so nice to get your comment jenn when my blog is acalltuy in Arabic! Gives new meaning to the saying \"a picture is worth a thousand words\".I am so glad to find Blotanical at long last, when I had been searching for a couple of months now for a gardening blog community until I found blotanical by chance.I live in Cairo, Egypt (can find it on Google Earth / Google Maps). As for the photos of the canal, it is acalltuy over 500 miles south of where I live (in South of Egypt) where a huge new irrigation project is being erected with the largest pump in the world to be build. It\'s called the Toskha project.Seems Egypt, which is mostly desert and warm, has a somewhat similar atmosphere to Arizona as you have mentioned.

PLO ambassador says Palestinian state should be free of Jews
After 44 years of Palestinian-Israeli conflict, "it would be in the best interest of the two people to be separated," PLO Ambassador Maen Areikat says. The Palestine Liberation Organization's ambassador to the United States said Tuesday that any future Palestinian state it seeks with help from the United Nations and the United States should be free of Jews. After 44 years of Palestinian-Israeli conflict, "it would be in the best interest of the two people to be separated," PLO Ambassador Maen Areikat says.... André Azoulay : the first time in his history he declared his real identity as Arab Jew and not north African Jew as he used to say in offical meetings before
We republished this interview done by André Azoulay (Moroccan king advisor) with Qantara (Dialogue with Islamic World electronic newspaper) because it is very important in the case of the official position of André Azoulay about his identity as North African Jew. North Africa, the only place in the world that we can say there the less  anti-Semitism and the only place in Islamic World that Amazighs stand to protect Jews  till nowadays (the case of Morocco in 2010 where Amazighs demonstrate in the street to protect Jew in Essaouira). In nowadays, when North Africa, which is part of Arab world (or Empire world, it depend on your point of view), are exposed before any time ago to Amazigh Identity movement protestation, Azoulay who knows that himself is Amazigh Jew or Jew Amazigh (big difference about them in the eyes of jews) (his name is Amazigh : Azoulay means in Amazigh language the one with the blue eyes) he declared himself as Arab Jew and not as Jew Arab. This is very interesting position. He says in his interview ….."First of all, I would like to point out that I was elected president of the Anna Lindh Foundation as the candidate of the Arab League. It was the first time in the history of the Arab League that an Arab Jew was selected to represent the league in an international institution. This selection was an act of huge symbolism, as was my nomination as advisor to my king. Every Arab state is at liberty to act in a similar manner..." ... The limits and potentials of Israel-Maghreb relations
This article is published in IPRIS revue (the Portuguese institute for international relations and security). IPRIS published each month IPRIS Maghreb Revue relating to Maghreb or North Africa, the two names that use Arabs and Europeans to the south of Meditetrrany or Tamazgha as it is named by there habitants, that means the land of Amazigh/berber people. We republished this article because it makes a very big noise in Moroccan press for the only raison that the word Amazigh and Amazigh cultural movement is in. The so called pan-arabe and pan-islamist press shows it as amazigh and Israel conspiracy.... Full story - - Auteur: IPRIS - Date : 2010-09-21 09:18:00
